Faux locs give you the full loc aesthetic — the weight, the texture, the drape — without permanently locking your natural hair. Each loc is built over a braided or wrapped base using loc hair or wrapping hair, so the finished style looks and moves like the real thing while remaining completely removable.
The finish is where personal taste comes in. Smooth faux locs read polished and uniform. Distressed locs are deliberately roughed up for a lived-in, organic look. Bohemian faux locs leave curly ends loose for softness and movement. Our San Diego braiders install all three, and will talk you through weight and length so the style stays comfortable to wear for its full life.

Keep the scalp clean and lightly oiled between the locs, and resist retwisting the base too often — over-manipulation at the root is the main cause of thinning with faux locs. Satin wrap at night. Wash gently every two weeks, squeezing rather than scrubbing so the wrap stays intact.

Not when installed with proper tension and removed on time. Because your own hair is braided and wrapped rather than locked, it is fully protected underneath.
Six to eight weeks is the usual window. Leaving them significantly longer risks matting at the root as new growth comes in.
Weight depends on length and thickness. We will balance the install so it feels secure without straining your roots — tell your braider if you prefer a lighter set.
