Fulani braids come from the Fula people of West Africa and carry a distinctive signature: a cornrow running front to back down the centre, cornrows braided along the sides, individual braids hanging free, and beads or cuffs threaded through. It is one of the most immediately recognisable styles in African hair braiding, and one of the oldest.
Because Awa trained in West African braiding technique, Fulani braids are braided here as a coherent pattern rather than a loose collection of elements copied from a photograph. The centre part, the direction of the side rows and the placement of the beads all relate to each other — which is precisely what makes an authentic Fulani install look balanced instead of merely decorated.

Beads add weight, so avoid pulling the loose braids into tight ponytails. Oil the scalp along the cornrow parts twice a week and wrap in satin at night. Check bead cuffs occasionally to make sure none have loosened, and take the style down on time before new growth pulls the centre row out of line.
