Senegalese twists are made by wrapping two strands of hair around each other into a smooth, continuous rope. Where a braid has three strands and visible texture, a twist has two and reads sleek — which is what gives Senegalese twists their signature sheen and clean drape.
Traditionally installed with silky kanekalon, the finish is deliberately glossy and uniform. They sit lighter on the head than most braided styles of comparable length, which makes them a favourite among clients who want visual impact without the weight. Our San Diego braiders keep the twist tension consistent from root to tip so the rope stays even and does not unravel early.

Avoid over-handling the twists in the first few days so they set properly. Oil the scalp two to three times weekly and wrap in satin at night to preserve the sheen. Wash gently every two weeks — twists can unravel if scrubbed, so squeeze shampoo through rather than rubbing.
