Starter locs are the genuine beginning of a permanent loc journey. Unlike faux locs, nothing is added and nothing is temporary — your own hair is sectioned and set into the units that will mature into locs over the coming months and years.

Too small and they may thin at the root; too large and they take far longer to mature. The first months matter most. Avoid over-washing while the locs are still setting — every two to three weeks is plenty — and resist retwisting more often than every four to six weeks, since over-tightening at the root is the single most common cause of thinning locs. Satin at night, always.
