Loc maintenance is quiet, unglamorous work that determines everything about how your locs age. A retwist keeps new growth aligned with the loc. Separation stops neighbouring locs marrying into each other. Root repair addresses thinning before a loc is at risk of breaking off entirely.

Between appointments, keep the scalp clean and lightly oiled, and separate any locs that begin to join at the root with your fingers. Sleep in satin. Do not retwist at home between salon visits — doubling up on tension is the fastest route to thin, fragile roots.
