Cornrows that start with your own hair and gain thickness gradually as extensions are fed in. The most natural-looking way to add length and fullness to a scalp braid.

Feed-in braids are cornrows built the gentle way. Rather than attaching a full section of extension hair at the hairline, the braider starts with your natural hair alone and feeds small pieces of extension in gradually as the row progresses. The braid therefore begins fine and thickens naturally along its length.
The benefit is twofold. Visually, the braid appears to grow out of your scalp because there is no abrupt bulk at the start. Structurally, it is far kinder to the hairline, since there is no heavy clump of extension hair pulling on your most delicate edges from the very first stitch. It is the technique we recommend for anyone whose edges have suffered from tight braiding in the past.
No visible clump of added hair at the hairline — the braid genuinely appears to grow from your scalp.
Gradual feeding means no heavy weight pulling on the hairline from the first stitch.
The braid thickens along its length the way natural hair would, rather than starting bulky.
Straight-backs, side parts, curves and full freestyle designs all work with feed-in technique.
Less added hair overall than a traditional cornrow with extensions.
Feed-in technique is what gives side-swept lemonade braids their seamless start.
From fine, fragile hair to thick, coarse textures — the technique adjusts to what your hair needs.

Because the hairline carries so little weight, feed-in braids are gentle on edges — but they still need care. Oil along each part twice a week, wrap in satin at night, and take them down at two to four weeks before new growth starts to pull the rows out of alignment.
